Deleting your account
Last updated 4 September 2026
In short
You can do it yourself, in the app, and it takes a minute.
- Settings → Delete all beers → Delete account.
- Your account is gone immediately, not in thirty days.
- No longer have the app? One email and we do it.
- There is no waiting period and no cooling-off. It is final at once.
- We cannot put it back, not even if you ask straight away.
- We do not ask why, and there is nothing to click through to convince us.
In the app, in two steps
It takes two steps on purpose. Your collection is the only thing you can really miss, so it goes first, separately, letting you see what goes before the rest follows.
- Open BackBeer and go to Settings, the icon at the top right of your collection.
- Under Data, choose Delete all beers and type the word the screen asks for. Your collection is now empty.
- Under Account, choose Delete account and enter your password.
After that your account is gone and you are signed out.
What goes
- Your email address and your display name.
- Your password.
- Your entire collection: beers, batches, quantities, storage places, prices, best-before dates and take-outs.
- Your groups, your shared lists and your trades.
- Every session, on every device.
Not flagged as deleted and not held pending: deleted. We do not keep a copy in case you come back.
What stays, and why
- Contributions to the shared catalog. If you added a beer or a brewery, that entry stays for the other users. Your name comes off it. These are facts about a product: that a beer is 8.5% stays true when you leave.
- Backups, temporarily. A backup taken before your deletion still contains your data until that backup’s turn comes to be overwritten: fourteen days for the daily copies, at most twelve months for the monthly ones. We never bring a deleted account back out of a backup.
Take what you want to keep first
Settings has an Export button that gives you your whole collection in a readable file. Do that before you delete. Afterwards we cannot reach it either, even if we wanted to.
No longer have the app?
Then we will do it. Write from the email address on your account to cheers@back.beer with Delete account as the subject.
We first send a confirmation to that address, to be sure the request comes from you and not from somebody who knows your address. Reply to it and we delete the account. That happens within thirty days and usually much sooner.
If you can no longer send mail from that address, say so in the same message. We will find another way to establish that you are who you say you are, and deleting an account at a stranger’s request is the other way to get this wrong.

What we keep and for how long is in the privacy policy. Anything else: cheers@back.beer.
