Why I built BackBeer

Hi, I'm Koen, a brewer and one of the founders of Dickies Brewing. I started on the idea of BackBeer in 2020, when my collection grew beyond what I could keep track of. I wanted to know which beers I had and how many of each, but also which styles and exactly what was cold.

After that I wanted to know which IPA should go first and which stout should wait a few years. I also wanted a list I could share with friends, for the beers we collect together.

Share with who you want

Make a list public and anybody can follow along in the app and on the site. Ideal for shops, bars, cafés and beer influencers. Or share it only with friends or family through an invite code. Or you keep your list completely private. You are in control.

  1. Pick a beer to trade.

    Pick a beer to trade and the quantity. Nothing leaves your collection yet.

  2. Generate the QR code.

    Your phone shows a QR code for this trade. Things only happen when the other scans it.

  3. Scan the QR code.

    The other scans with BackBeer and picks where to store: Fridge, Stash or Rest.

  4. Trade in progress.

    The beer leaves your collection and lands in theirs. Both phones need to be online at this stage.

And don't forget the beer itself.

The beer is in their collection now. But make sure you physically hand it over as well. Cheers.

Caps are your score.

Add a beer, improve an existing one or fill in what is missing. Does it get approved? Then you score Caps and land on our Wall of Fame.

Every beer you add or improve that nobody has to correct afterwards counts as a Cap. The more Caps you have, the higher you rank on the Wall of Fame.

You decide for yourself whether you want to appear publicly on the Wall of Fame. We use your username for that.

  • AccountIt works offline and without an account. With an account your collection syncs between your devices and is backed up every night. You can export all of it whenever you like.
